Scientist, Protein Chemistry

Amide Technologies is reimagining how proteins and protein therapeutics are discovered, engineered, and applied. We use cutting-edge artificial intelligence and solid-phase flow chemistry to rapidly design and build proteins from the ground up. Amide’s engineered proteins and protein therapeutics are fully untethered from biological systems and contain unlimited non-natural amino acids, post-translational modifications, and artificial backbones.

Role description:

We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our growing team as a Scientist, Protein Chemistry. As a key member of the chemistry team, the candidate will discover and apply innovative synthetic peptide and protein engineering principles and techniques. The candidate will closely collaborate with experts in biology, therapeutics, artificial intelligence and business development.

In this role you:

• Represent the chemistry team in a cross functional group focused on therapeutic R&D in internal and/or partnered programs

• Synthesize peptides and proteins using state-of-the-art solid-phase synthesis technology

• Lead the Devise and perform single-shot and/or chemical ligation of proteins--optimizing properties such as solubility, yield, and purity

• Devise and perform site-specific chemical modifications/conjugations to peptides/proteins

• Perform validation and purification of peptides/proteins by LC-MS and chromatography

• Use, maintain, and troubleshoot home-built peptide synthesis software and instrumentation

• Devise effective hit ID strategies to move projects through the Hit-to-Lead phase with scientific excellence, efficiency and speed

• Act as key member of a multidisciplinary team, assisting with development of project strategy, and analysis and communication of complex data

• Contribute to ongoing innovation within the company through the introduction of the most recent trends in peptide and protein synthesis and modifications

• Maintain a broad awareness of the scientific and technological landscapes of organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry and drug discovery

• Contribute to the identification of new projects and products to the portfolio through collaborations with biologists, business and colleagues

Who you are:

• A PhD in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, or Masters with 2+ years experience

• Experience with solid-phase peptide synthesis and modification

• Experience with HPLC, FPLC and LC-MS instrumentation

• Experience of working in matrixed teams of scientists to meet project objectives

• Demonstrated effective problem solving skills

• Excellent communication skills

The position is full time and ideally the Scientist, Protein Chemistry will be based at the company’s headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. Flexibility with regard to working hours and travel is required. The Scientist, Protein Chemistry will report to the Chief Executive Officer.
