Anvil Diagnostics

Full-time

Cambridge, MA, USA

Posted on Oct 4, 2026

Join Anvil Diagnostics if you believe that complex health data can and should be acquired with simple, accessible assays.

We are building comprehensive assays for pathogen diagnostics with existing digital PCR (dPCR) hardware. We bring ideas from statistics, machine learning, and microfluidics to molecular biology. We challenge conventional approaches to assay design and the notion that clinicians should have to choose between rapid assays that provide limited information and complex assays that are impractical for routine use.

You will be one of a handful of full-time employees at a startup that has launched its first flagship product (MycoScan) and is ramping up follow-on assay development. As a result, this role spans multiple functions across R&D, manufacturing, quality control, and clinical development. Anvil’s team members are given significant and expanding ownership over their objectives while remaining flexible to support other areas as needed. You will conduct extensive dPCR experiments, use existing and develop new analysis scripts for your results to guide next steps, and report back regularly to the team. You will also assist in developing lab processes that help support product quality control and fulfillment.

As Anvil’s technologies continue to gain broader recognition from the industry and customers, you will occasionally travel to conferences or customer sites over the next year. Travel requirements will be light but non-zero.

Joining a small startup is not for everyone, but if you have high initiative and enjoy executing independently alongside a driven team, then we would love to have you on board.

The Job

  • Characterize and optimize performance of lead assay in new conditions
  • Use and develop analysis pipelines (Python, R, etc.) to analyze high-volume data from digital PCR
  • Develop new multiplexed dPCR assays in follow-on applications
  • Support manufacturing, quality control, and order fulfillment
  • Occasional travel to industry conferences or customer sites

Qualifications

  • PhD in biochemistry, bioengineering, microbiology, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of full-time industry experience in IVD or LDT product development
  • Expert-level in multiplexed PCR assay optimization and nucleic acid biochemistry
  • Coding experience with developing custom data analysis scripts or pipelines (Python, Matlab, R, etc.)

Bonus Points

  • Experience with fungal culture and mycology
  • Understanding of mathematical foundations of machine learning and signal processing
  • Previous experience at an early startup
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

Please consider applying even if you do not meet all the criteria above. We understand that the best candidate may surprise us with unique qualifications and perspectives.
