Hardware/Electrical Engineer

at Axoft

Cambridge, Massachusetts

Axoft is building the most advanced and scalable platform for implantable brain-machine interfaces. Our mission is to enable minimally invasive, long-term stable and ultra-high bandwidth communication with the brain, opening new therapies and treatments against neurological disorders and physical disabilities. We have bridged the gap between electronic and biological materials to create the softest, nanofabricated brain implants in the world. We are now looking to add talented people to the team who are passionate, deliver results, and are committed to finding creative solutions to complex problems. Axoft is looking for candidates who have demonstrated exceptional abilities and results in their previous professional, academic and interpersonal experiences and have the skillset that fits this job offer.

As a Hardware/Electrical Engineer at Axoft, you will be working side by side with the Electrical Engineering team as well as the Microfabrication, Pre-clinical, and Product Development teams to develop system-level solutions for miniaturized brain-machine interfaces. This job will be on-site at our headquarters near Kendall Square in Cambridge, MA.

About you:

  • You embrace challenges at work, and you enjoy solving complex problems by breaking them down into achievable goals.

  • You are thoughtful/conscientious and creative, but you are also execution oriented, with a clear focus on delivering a simple, implementable, and scalable solution.

  • You love multi-disciplinary environments and thrive when working with various teams of engineers and scientists.

  • You are ingenious and independent but know how to leverage the experience of your team.

  • You are highly self-directed, but collaborative; comfortable owning full development cycles while drawing on the team's expertise when needed.

Key qualifications:

  • Desire to work reliably with novel and complex processes where innovation and precision are equally important.

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or other related field.

  • Deep understanding of electronic circuits, PCB design, advanced PCB manufacturing techniques, and electromechanical system integration.

  • Expertise in PCB design software (esp. Altium) and hands-on PCB assembly and soldering experience.

  • Proficiency in mechanical CAD tools (e.g. SolidWorks, Onshape) and familiarity with prototyping techniques (3D printing, CNC, laser cutting, etc.).

  • Experience with electromechanical integration, including enclosures, connectors, flex circuits, power regulation, and thermal management.

  • Demonstrated ability to design for manufacturing and assembly (DFM/DFA) and produce clear test plans, test data, and engineering reports.

Preferred qualifications:

  • B.S with 3+ yr of working experience

  • Master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other related fields.

  • Experience designing for low-noise, low-power, miniaturized systems, especially in wearables or implantable.

  • Experience with mainstream Electrophysiology systems (e.g. Intan Technologies, Neuropixels)

  • Embedded programming skills (e.g. C/C++, Verilog, VHDL) and experience with microcontrollers or FPGAs.

  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g. Python) for data presentation.

· Familiarity with signal integrity, EMI mitigation, shielding, and analog front-end design.

· Experience with medical device development lifecycles (e.g. ISO 13485, IEC 60601, ISO 10993).

· Understanding of risk management and safety standards in implantable or patient-interfacing devices.

Your responsibilities:

  • Drive the design, prototyping, and validation of electronic components for next-generation brain-machine interfaces.

  • Collaborate closely with the lead Electrical Engineer and cross-functional teams on product architecture and development strategy.

  • Own the development of robust hardware test plans, validation setups, and integration workflows.

  • Produce and maintain comprehensive engineering documentation, design histories, and manufacturing handoffs.

  • Maintain strong, transparent communication across disciplines and contribute to a culture of technical excellence and iteration.

What we offer:

  • An opportunity to work with a team of experts on one of the most exciting problems in the world and change lives.

  • Career growth opportunities that fit your potential.

  • Comprehensive benefits plan including health and dental insurance; parental leave.
