Director of Strategic Global Supply Chain

Boston Metal is commercializing cutting edge extractive metallurgy technology that will revolutionize primary metals production by improving metal quality while decreasing cost and lowering environmental impact. This growing, fast-paced startup company is looking for a Director of Strategic Global Supply Chain.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze details of company’s critical materials for the coming year to define S&OP criteria and ensure development of the supply base.
  • Evaluate company´s strategic goals, develop and establish relationships with the global suppliers to ensure future demands will be met.
  • Interact with the operational supply chain management to handover the developed suppliers for on going chain;
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and develop sourcing strategies that align with company objectives.
  • Facilitate internal and external discussions to refine requirements and specifications.
  • Identify the major capex suppliers in the industry; Influence their roadmaps and R&D investments.
  • Prepare and present recommendations to senior management on sourcing strategies and reducing total capex requirements
  • Influence and inspire industry so that every dollar that Boston Metals doesn’t need to fully fund the equipment development that is required
  • Mentor and develop team members to enhance their skills and knowledge in strategic sourcing and vendor management.
  • Prepare the company for commercialization by developing a sourcing roadmap that includes robust risk mitigation strategies to address potential disruptions in the supply chain through capacity expansion. Proactively identify and manage geopolitical, economic, and other risks to ensure continuity.
  • Lead complex negotiations with suppliers, focusing on favorable terms, contractual agreements, and sustainable value creation. Ensure contracts are strategic, flexible, and aligned with long-term business objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics or engineering (mechanical / industrial)
  • +10 years of global Supply Chain Management, commodity management or purchasing experience in a manufacturing start-up environment
  • Experience with product lifecycle development, especially new product introduction (NPI) PR-to-PO Experience with MRP/ERP systems (Oracle, SAP, NetSuite)
  • Certifications are not required but a plus: CPIM, CPM, CPSM, ISM, ASCM

Background and Experience:

  • Technical background in physics, chemistry or mechanical engineering
  • Knowledge of large scale industrial manufacturing methods and processes
  • Experience setting budgets and achieving financial targets
  • Experience negotiating capital purchase agreements
  • Experience creating supply chain strategies and evaluating supplier performance
  • Experience presenting plans and results to senior management

You will be working in a small team environment where teamwork and good relationships with other team members is critical. We operate pilot plants and labs and many of our staff members are required to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and you should be prepared to do so as well when necessary.
