Alloy Development Engineer

Boston Metal is commercializing cutting edge extractive metallurgy technology that will revolutionize primary metals production, while decreasing cost and lowering environmental impact. This fast-paced startup company is looking for an Alloy Development Engineer to join the Anode Development Team.

Duties for this job will include: coordination of MOE experiments, design of experiments, data analysis and reporting of results to a larger team, collaboration with both R&D and operations teams, experimental design, and data analysis and reporting.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • lab and pilot scale MOE experiments to ensure proper setup and operation
  • results from experiments as it pertains to both anode performance and MOE performance – desired experience with Python, MATLAB, or JMP.
  • closely with R&D and operations to design experimentation for alloy development and interpret results.
  • and report results to a larger team and make recommendations for next steps
  • with anode team to ensure alloy development can meet deadlines for Boston Metal’s technical program.

Required Qualifications

This position requires a minimum education level of a bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or Metallurgical Engineering. Qualified candidates will have hands-on experience in a technical environment, conducting laboratory-scale experiments, and performing data analysis/reporting.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with electrochemical or galvanic cells
  • Experience with high-temperature processes >1000°C.
  • Experience with alloy development or metallurgy
  • Experience with optical and SEM microscopy.
  • Data analysis and reporting in JMP, MATLAB, or Python.
  • Good record keeping and organization skills.

Physical Demands

  • The employee must be able to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) as required by the specific work activity which may include: N95 mask or respirator; various types of gloves/hand protection; safety shoes; head protection; and protective clothing.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee has potential for exposure to hazardous chemicals and/or hazardous waste, and occasional exposure to moving equipment, the risks of which are minimized through compliance with established use of proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety policies and procedures. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
