About Circe

Circe is creating a manufacturing platform that produces essential materials without traditional supply chain constraints. We use low-cost ubiquitous feedstocks, like CO2, to produce a diverse range of chemicals. By developing our novel microbe and gas fermentation process, we aim to radically improve the way we produce common products, starting with fats and oils for food. Guided by our core value of urgency with care, we are on a mission to promote resilience in the face of climate change while improving how we care for ourselves and the planet.

How You’ll Make an Impact

As a Junior Process Scientist, you will work closely with our team of scientists and engineers to help develop and optimize fermentation processes with our microbes to produce fats for food applications. You will be responsible for performing fermentation experiments, analyzing data, and maintaining accurate and detailed records of lab activities. Your contributions will be instrumental in improving our fermentation performance to enable us to produce our fats more efficiently.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the preparation and execution of fermentation runs at multiple scales, including well plates, flasks, and benchtop bioreactors.
  • Perform a variety of measurements and assays to monitor fermentation, including OD measurements and media component measurements.
  • Assist in method development of new and existing analytical techniques used to monitor fermentations.
  • Troubleshoot technical hurdles.
  • Analyze, interpret, and present experimental data to the team and leadership.
  • Maintain lab notebooks and documentation of experiments.
  • Collaborate in team meetings and in the laboratory on cross-functional projects.
  • Support general lab activities, such as making media, agar plates, and maintaining inventory.

What You Will Bring

  • BS in microbiology, biochemistry, bioengineering, chemical engineering, or related field (required).
  • 2+ years wet lab work experience related to bacterial culturing and fermentation (preferred)
  • An understanding of microbial fermentation and the associated microbiology, analytical methods, and gas transfer concepts.
  • Aseptic technique proficiency.
  • Ability to accurately follow written SOPs and verbal direction.
  • Rigorous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Flexibility and resilience in a fast-paced work environment, with determination to meet goals.
