About Continuity

Today's healthcare is trapped in a cycle of reactive care and poor health outcomes. It relies on infrequent snapshots of our health and is blind to what happens outside the doctor visits. This results in a broken system of delayed diagnoses and treatment only after diseases manifested.

Continuity is building the real-time interface for human health. Our biosensing platform enables predictive and deeply personalized care by continuously and non-invasively decoding molecular signals from your body. As AI reshapes the world, this biological insight in real-time is the foundation for fully autonomous AI physicians across clinical and consumer applications.

We are a DARPA- and VC-backed, early-stage MIT spin-off, founded by a duo of builders with deep expertise in molecular sensing, engineering, and data science. We are partnering with world-leading clinicians and scientists to build the most advanced interface for human health.

This is your opportunity to build the world’s first platform to continuously decode human health in real-time via large-scale molecular data. In addition to shaping our technology, you will also shape the culture of a startup that transforms our understanding of human health.

Your Role

As a Founding Scientist, you will lead the development of the sensing interface for our first wearable prototype, optimizing synthetic DNA-based nanostructures, fine-tuning molecular recognition elements and integrating them with electrode-supported membranes to push the limits of real-time molecular detection.

You will drive end-to-end experimental and computational workflows starting from aptamer design and surface functionalization to assay development and system validation, laying the groundwork for a scalable, multi-analyte sensing platform.

This is a high-impact, high-ownership role for someone who thrives in ambiguity, moves fast from concept to execution, and leads with scientific rigor and purpose.

What you will work on?

Your mission is to unleash the power of multi-analyte sensing in our first wearable prototype, Guardian. Guardian is a minimally invasive wearable biosensor that uses nanopore-based signal transduction to continuously monitor key molecular biomarkers such as metabolites, proteins, hormones, etc. in real-time to provide deep, personal insights to protect and improve our health.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Engineer and optimize aptamers and other molecular recognition elements with tunable affinity and specificity for biomarkers in complex biofluids, using sequence design, computational modeling, binder selection, and de novo molecular design approaches.
  • Design, validate, and integrate bio-functionalized surfaces and membranes on electrode interfaces, with a focus on aptamer immobilization, high-impedance signal stability, and anti-fouling strategies using passivation chemistries, protective coatings, or nanoscale patterning.
  • Create and assemble DNA origami nanostructures that self-organize into membrane systems, optimizing folding, membrane insertion, and structural robustness to interface reliably with bioelectronic devices.
  • Lead experimental workflows and manage a fast-paced molecular sensing wet lab, including planning, reagent preparation, equipment upkeep, protocol execution, and data generation focused on binding kinetics, sensor response, and system robustness.
  • Contribute to validation pipelines, SOPs, and team knowledge infrastructure, while mentoring teammates and supporting scientific outputs such as publications, patents, and grant proposals that help scale the platform and the company.

Who we are looking for

  • Obsession with human health and a drive to build foundational technology that enables real-time, personalized care for people everywhere.
  • Strong expertise in biomolecular engineering, with experience tuning molecular interactions through aptamer design, sequence optimization and/or computational modeling, and integrating binders into real-world sensing platforms.
  • Expertise in aptamer-based sensors and functional surfaces, with hands-on experience developing stable, passivated membranes and coatings for biosensing or electrochemical interfaces.
  • Experimentalist who thrives on execution, with a track record of running rigorous assays to measure binding kinetics, sensor response, or anti-fouling performance, and iterating based on real-world data.
  • Excitement to lead and mentor others, and help shape a high-ownership, mission-driven team culture grounded in speed, documentation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Experiences that intrigue us

  • Experience building and optimizing biosensors with electrochemical, optical, or impedance-based readouts, and engineering surface-supported membranes using polymers, lipids, or micelles for tunable interface properties.
  • Demonstrated excellence in designing nucleic acid–based recognition elements such as aptamers or DNA nanostructures for biosensing, ideally with first-author publications showcasing system design, validation, or integration.
  • Strong working knowledge of computational modeling tools (e.g., GROMACS, AutoDock, PyMOL, CHARMM/OpenMM) applied to molecular recognition or nanostructure design, validated through paired wet-lab experimentation.
  • Familiarity with SELEX or other high-throughput screening techniques for discovering and optimizing binders, and a deep understanding of structure–function relationships in molecular interactions.
  • A track record of thriving in interdisciplinary teams and mentoring others, with a desire to scale culture, technical rigor, and execution discipline in a high-ownership startup environment.

What you need to succeed

  • Educational Background: MS, PhD, Postdoc or equivalent experience in Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field. We care far more about what you have built than what your degree says.
  • Fluency in molecular sensing workflows, including pipetting, buffer/surface preparation, reagent handling, and troubleshooting protocols involving biointerfaces, nanostructures, and chemically sensitive components.
  • Hands-on experience with surface and molecular characterization, using tools like AFM, SEM, TEM, optical microscopy, spectroscopy, electrochemical readouts (EIS, CV), QCM-D, BIF, SPR, ellipsometry, etc. to assess sensor performance and interface quality.
  • Proficiency in bioconjugation and analytical techniques, including fluorophore or linker attachment, gel electrophoresis, HPLC, PCR/qPCR, and micellization for sensor assembly and validation.
  • Ability to analyze and model molecular behavior, with working knowledge of simulation tools like PyMOL, GROMACS, or AutoDock, and data analysis in Python, MATLAB, or R to extract insights from binding, electrochemical, or fluorescence-based experiments.
