About Droplet Biosciences:

Founded in 2021, Cambridge, MA-based Droplet Biosciences harnesses the power of lymphatic fluid to provide earlier and more sensitive cancer diagnostics. Founded by physician scientists and led by experienced diagnostics executives, Droplet is innovating in places others have overlooked and changing the way cancer is treated. Lymph-rich surgical drain fluid is the most proximal biofluid to the recently resected tumor, enabling assessment of recurrence risk before cancer spreads. Droplet sequences the fluid that drains from an integrated network of tissue, nodes, and lymphatic channels in the locoregional area. Droplet’s assay can detect molecular-level disease, in-transit metastasis, and positive nodes that may have been missed during surgery or pathological review.

If you are looking to apply your software development and data science skills to develop products that can improve cancer patient care, please apply.

The Role:

The Software Engineer / Data Scientist will join our R&D team. You will have the opportunity to build a pipeline to analyze new types of data. Your work will inform the development and validation of algorithms that have the potential to significantly impact cancer patient care in the near term.

You will play a critical role in setting up analysis pipelines and performing genomic analyses for multiple projects in cancer biology, including circulating tumor DNA across a range of sample types, and machine learning modeling using -omics data.

The position offers an excellent opportunity to apply your skills to developing products that will be helping clinicians and patients in the near future while also building a platform for future work in new and exciting areas of medical diagnostics.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

  • Implement automated and scalable analysis pipelines that can serve as the basis for clinical diagnostic tests on AWS
  • Perform cell-free DNA liquid biopsy molecular residual disease (MRD) analyses in R&D and CLIA setting
  • Develop algorithms for cancer diagnostics using machine learning on large-scale -omics data
  • Effectively visualize data to convey critical findings to scientists, clinicians, and other stakeholders
  • Assist with manuscript preparation and reporting of methods, data and results
  • Help maintain, support, and document tools, code, and datasets
  • Train other users in the use of informatics tools developed

Qualifications:

  • Hold a Master’s Degree with industry working experience in computer science, bioinformatics, cancer genomics or other related fields
  • Possess industry experience in software development with a preference for life sciences
  • Possess significant experience with AWS (batch, cloud formation, etc.), cloud architecture, pipeline automation and deployment
  • Possess significant experience with handling next-generation sequencing data, such as WGS and target sequencing
  • Possess significant experience with machine learning/predictive modeling, familiar with foundational models
