The Role
We are looking for a collaborative, detail-oriented and analytical individual to join our Fund Operations & Finance team as a Financial Analyst. Reporting to and working closely with the VP Investor Relations and Operations, this position will oversee critical areas of the firm’s data management processes, including systematizing all aspects of the firm’s portfolio and fund management needs, and manage key financial reporting and operations processes, as well as analysis across critical business decisions. The role will be exposed to many aspects of Engine Ventures and have direct interaction with finance & ops, legal, and investment teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end portfolio data management software to ensure integrity and consistency of portfolio and fund information, including portfolio company financials, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), milestones and cash flows.
  • Execute best practice for storing portfolio company & fund-level data and efficiently manage the maintenance, updating, and reporting of data across various workflows and functions of the firm.
  • Prepare ad-hoc financial models and analyses, including pro-forma cap tables, liquidity waterfalls, and other investment and fund modeling.
  • Work with investment and finance teams to support the quarterly and year-end valuation process and investment cash-flow management. Provide input on portfolio valuation for presentation to the valuation committee.
  • Assist with quarterly/annual and ad-hoc reporting to limited partners and prospective investors.
  • Assist with ad-hoc requests and business projects, including research and strategic insights for annual investor meetings and the preparation of follow-on investment memos.
  • Participate in fundraising work streams such as data room preparation and management, internal/external presentation/document drafting and review, and transactional and operation support.
  • Continuously look to improve internal systems and processes by building tools and implementing automation wherever possible.

Skills & Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in finance, accounting, consulting and/or operations. Experience at a Big 4 accounting firm or in alternative investment management, incl. Venture Capital is a plus but not required.
  • Bachelor’s degree required (Accounting or Finance a plus)
  • Highly proficient excel skills required. Demonstrated ability to take responsibility/ownership of projects to achieve outcomes.
  • Exceptional attention to detail alongside strong organizational and time management skills in a fast-moving, ever changing environment.
  • Must be flexible and proactive, ready to tackle a wide range of tasks as needed with a “roll up your sleeves” mentality.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team while also being self-motivated and capable of working independently to meet deadlines and achieve goals.
  • Ability to be comfortable in a fluid work environment and deal with competing objectives in a fast paced environment.
