Role Description:
Form Energy is hiring a Staff Quality Engineer - Electronics to drive quality into the PCBA manufacturing, battery management systems, thermal management units, and DC-DC converters we build in-house. This role reports into our Quality Engineering organization. As part of our Quality team, you'll partner closely with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Test Engineering to build reliable, high-performing electronics as an integral part of our battery systems, from prototype through full production. What You’ll Do: (bullet list)
Work closely with Design/Manufacturing Engineering to develop and document measurement, inspection, and test methods for PCBA, BMS, and DC-DC converter builds, in support of our Control Plans
Support change management and execution of process development experiments for new electronics builds and manufacturing process transfers
Regularly review PFMEAs and Control Plans for these product lines and support updates and revisions as designs and processes evolve
Lead/assist in the identification and resolution of manufacturing and field quality issues on electronic assemblies
Participate continuous improvement in yield, reliability, and cost with Design/Manufacturing Engineering, partnering with Supplier Quality Engineering on external supplier investigations while owning in-house quality execution
Support Statistical Process Control (SPC) activities on key electronics process parameters and use critical thinking to efficiently reduce variation during manufacturing
Lead non-conforming material control activities for electronic components and assemblies, including disposition and corrective action closure
What You’ll Bring: (bullet list)
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a similar field
5-10 years of quality systems experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally with PCBA or electronics exposure
Solid foundation in electrical engineering fundamentals — circuit theory, power electronics basics, and the ability to read a schematic well enough to judge whether a test is actually checking the right thing
Experience with SPC, PFMEAs, and Control Plans
Understanding of board-level test methods and the tradeoffs between coverage, cost, and cycle time
Familiarity with test fixture and test-stand design, including what makes a fixture reliable and repeatable in high-volume use
Structured problem-solving (8D) and analytical skills, including statistical tools, Design of Experiments (DOE), and process capability (Cpk, Ppk)
Where you'll work:
This role is based at Form Factory 1 in Weirton, WV—an easy commute from the city of Pittsburgh, PA. This 550,000-square-foot facility is our hub for high-volume battery production and a leader in the new era of American energy manufacturing. Relocation assistance is available.
