Job Description:

Future Use of Energy in Louisiana (FUEL), is an NSF-funded program, NSF Engine: Louisiana Energy Transition Engine, that is positioning the state as a global energy transition leader that supports the energy industry in lowering carbon emissions. FUEL brings together a growing team of universities, community and technical colleges, state agencies, and industry and capital partners led by LSU. The Director of Community Engagement will be responsible for working closely with the FUEL Executive Director, industry members, universities, and community stakeholders to promote, develop, design, implement, and monitor all community engagement activities. This position will supervise and manage all community engagement projects including Use-Inspired R&D support programs, Workforce Development support programs, and Translation of Innovation to Practice/Technology Commercialization support programs.

Job Responsibilities:

Relationship Management: Serve as the FUEL Director of Community Engagement. This position will require engagement with the 50+ partner organizations, NSF, the Executive Director, the Inclusive Engagement Subcommittee, and other stakeholders. FUEL is structured to bring representation from various stakeholders with the vision of aligning community engagement and involvement in FUEL with special emphasis on energy transition issues impacting the Region of Service, Louisiana. The Director will serve as a liaison across FUEL industry partners to make meaningful engagements across the community. This position will be responsible for ensuring all-inclusive engagement reporting obligations are satisfied for NSF, LED, and other partners. (20%)

FUEL Partnership Engagement: The Director of Community Engagement will serve as a liaison with officials from local communities throughout the FUEL Region as well as with state agencies for the promotion of FUEL programs. The Director will develop, grow, and support communication across the FUEL networks with key community leaders on pressing issues and aspects of FUEL that may prove helpful in their work. This position will provide focus and direction toward partnership opportunities between LSU, other universities, the local communities, and regional partners to help advance FUEL initiatives, to better support and enable student opportunity, social mobility, business growth, and to improve the FUEL community. (20%)

FUEL Community Engagement: The Director of Community Engagement will support, grow, and engage with all FUEL programs with a specific focus to build collaboration with local nonprofits, faith-based organizations, businesses, community leaders, and under-served populations in the FUEL Region. The Director will serve as lead facilitator for community-focused programs, and manage relations with FUEL partners and stakeholders. This position will maintain community relationships with historic communities and provide and conduct activities that improve the FUEL program's standing among the local community, state, and regional constituencies. (20%)

Project Management: The Director of Community Engagement will work directly with the Inclusive Engagement Subcommittee to propose, develop, establish, and implement appropriate policies and procedures to deploy all FUEL project deliverables and programming associated with the Inclusive Engagement activities of the FUEL engine. The Director will be responsible for convening quarterly meetings with the Inclusive Engagement Subcommittee as well as maintaining regular communication with the subcommittee between convenings. The ultimate goal for all-inclusive engagement activity is to be cross-cutting with all other FUEL activities through participation in other FUEL initiatives. (15%)

FUEL Communication Manager: The Director of Community Engagement will communicate with the FUEL community audiences regarding goals, progress, outcomes, and successes by delivering content and insights in the appropriate communications channel. The Director will create content and analysis that develops a positive impression of the FUEL program to create relationships among local community leaders and audiences as well as coordinating and integrating directly for the entire FUEL program to seek opportunities for inclusive engagement and partnership with local community leaders and their organizations. The Director will develop and implement a FUEL-wide engagement effort with local community, state, and other leaders. (10%)

Grant and Budget Management: The Director of Community Engagement will be responsible for managing all aspects of the Inclusive Engagement budget under the leadership of the Executive Director. Budgets will be established on an annual basis in support of all-inclusive engagement activities in alignment with the need, scope, and project requirements. Management of the inclusive engagement portion of FUEL, including tracking, budgeting, documenting, and reporting on all inclusive engagement key metrics. Provide key programmatic and administrative support, including scheduling meetings, maintaining records, tracking outputs and outcomes, and providing program oversight. (10%)

Other duties as assigned by the FUEL Executive Director. (5%)

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, business or related field and 7 years experience; must have a valid driver's license.

Proven track record of relationship-building Strong, demonstrable track record of project management and program delivery Experience working in or adjacent to Institutions of Higher Education or Community Engagement programs

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in science, engineering, public administration, or related field.

MS, MBA, JD or an advanced degree related to the energy field Grant writing and management experience Advanced degree in communications, business management or public administration
