Overview Energy is a mission-driven team committed to delivering Space Solar Energy to the world. We operate at the intersection of space infrastructure and energy abundance, providing continuous baseload power 24/7 - without seasonality or the need for batteries. Headquartered in the Northern Virginia / Washington, DC area and backed by world-class investors, we are advancing the next generation of clean energy technology.
The Role
The Electromechanical Engineer will design and develop integrated electromechanical systems for spacecraft assembly, deployment, and on-orbit operations. This role emphasizes the design and integration of mechanical structures with electrical components, sensors, actuators, motors, and control systems to create precision mechanisms that perform complex autonomous tasks in space environments.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop electromechanical systems and precision mechanisms for spacecraft assembly, integration, and on-orbit operations
Create integrated designs combining mechanical structures with electrical components including motors, actuators, sensors, and embedded control electronics
Develop and specify sensor integration, motion control systems, and actuator assemblies for space-qualified electromechanical applications
Perform stress analysis, thermal analysis, and design calculations to optimize electromechanical system performance, reliability, and mass efficiency for space environments
Conduct testing and validation of electromechanical systems to confirm proper operation and safety under simulated space conditions using test instruments and diagnostic equipment
Develop control strategies and feedback control loops to regulate electromechanical system behavior and ensure precise coordinated operation
Design deployment mechanisms, positioning systems, and payload handling electromechanical assemblies for spacecraft applications
Build prototypes and fabricate electromechanical assemblies using computer-aided manufacturing and precision machining techniques
Troubleshoot electromechanical systems, diagnose mechanical and electrical failures, replace faulty components, and implement modifications
Select and specify motors, actuators, sensors, controllers, and electromechanical components for space applications
-
Ensure designs meet safety regulations, industry standards, and space environment constraints including thermal, vacuum, and radiation requirements
Required Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Electromechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical field; Master's degree preferred
Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience in electromechanical systems engineering, preferably in aerospace or space applications
