Scientist I - Platform
- Research and Development
- Full-time
- Cambridge, MA
Posted on May 20, 2024
At Source Bio, we are working on novel gene therapy technologies – making gene therapy safer, cheaper, and better for everyone. It is a big mission, and we are looking for talented, ambitious, optimistic people to join our team. We are a seed stage, venture backed biotech company and are currently in stealth mode (so don’t bother looking for a website).
We are currently searching for a Scientist I with expertise in therapeutic protein design, molecular biology, and gene therapy vector engineering to support development of our platform technologies and product candidates. We are looking for a candidate who will be a major driver of experiments in the lab while also contributing to the research strategy and long-term development of the company. The Scientist I will work hand-in-hand with the CSO and will be a critical member of the founding team.
Responsibilities
Model, design, and test protein payloads encoded in Source’s gene therapy vectors.
Establish and run in vitro and cell-based assays for testing protein/vector designs.
Design and engineer optimized DNA vector genome sequences that are developable into therapeutic products.
Help establish novel protein and vector design and testing technologies that advance the capabilities of the platform.
Implement cutting edge techniques and tools (e.g. machine learning) for predicting optimal protein structures, immunogenicity, and post-translational modifications.
Stay on top of the literature and industry technical advances to improve platform capabilities by identifying novel approaches and propose experimental plans to test the hypothesis with the internal team and by the utilization of CROs.
Manage experimental workflows and maintain accountability for the effectiveness and timelines of project goals.
Maintain compliant documentation in our electronic lab notebook, and author scientific reports that support internal decision-making and eventual regulatory submission.
Contribute to drafting of intellectual property applications.
Education and Requirements
Ph.D. in protein biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field.
2+ years of industry experience preferred.
Direct experience in the design and testing of therapeutic proteins and viral vectors for drug and technology development.
Expertise in plasmid construction for viral or non-viral gene therapy.
Expertise with in vitro and cell-based assays
Expertise with protein detection and characterization assays such as ELISA and mass spec
Expertise with PCR-based assays, such as qPCR, RT-PCR and ddPCR.
Experience with project progression, experimental prioritization, project teams and line responsibilities.
Experience pursuing scientific answers through experimental planning.
Experience using statistical approaches to interpret data.
Experience with electronic lab notebook and authoring scientific reports that support internal documentation and regulatory submissions.
Diplomacy and positive influencing abilities with excellent communication skills.
