Syzygy Plasmonics Inc. (Houston, Texas) is a deep-decarbonization company. It builds reactors that use light instead of heat to electrify chemical manufacturing and power a cleaner, safer world. Utilizing technology licensed from Rice University and advanced engineering, Syzygy is commercializing a universal light-driven reactor platform. When powered with renewable electricity, this tunable technology reduces both cost and emissions from many different chemical reactions.

Syzygy Plasmonics is seeking an experienced . The position will be onsite and located at our Pearland, Tx offices.

Job Responsibilities:

• Use CAD software to design prototypes of photochemical reactors & associated systems.
• Collaborate with R&D team to create specifications for reactor prototypes.
• Model designs and individual parts to generate engineering drawings and bill of materials.
• Source the materials required for prototypes and work with fabricators such as machine shops to deliver the physical prototypes. Assemble prototypes.
• Collaborate with the R&D team to create mechanical drawings of chemical production system and its components as needed.
• Engage with external collaborators such as engineering firms as needed
• Engage and establish relationship with component suppliers / vendors
• Contribute to writing project reports
• Demonstrate safety leadership in all aspects of the role
• Participate and/or lead project planning and design, estimate resources, timeline and cost as well as create functional requirements, engineer drawings, test plans, technical reports, and operational documents;
• Participate in consumer research or product ideation. Seek to understand consumer needs and develop concepts, prototypes, and product solutions to meet these needs.
• Own and manage prototyping test plan development and execution.
• Ability to generate mechanical designs for P&ID’s, sheet metal/structural assemblies

Minimum requirements:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering
• 7+ years of industry experience, including R&D environment
• Demonstrated success in equipment design
• Proficient in design for manufacturing
• Advanced user of 3D CAD software (OnShape or SolidWorks preferred)
• Conscientious and detail-oriented
• Excellent organizational skills and time management skills
• Polite persistence and collaboration skills to ensure on-time, high quality results
• Proficiency in English
• Excellent knowledge of MS Office, particularly Excel
• Able to start full-time immediately

Helpful background:

• Expertise in modular design & process intensification for chemical process equipment (skid equipment)
• Experience in pressure vessel design (particularly ASME certification), heating & cooling systems design, &/or systems engineering
• Experience with finite element analysis
