XGenomes is developing a radically new DNA sequencing technology that will revolutionize personalized healthcare. We watch single-molecule interactions at optical super-resolution, down to a few nanometers and use artificial intelligence to decode sequence and epigenetic states. To scale up our prototype, we are looking for a mechatronics/mechanical/systems engineer to join our team for an in-person summer internship in Cambridge, MA. We look forward to reading your application at this link! Responsibilities: Develop and evaluate performance of heating and cooling systems for automated fluidics system for a prototype single-molecule DNA imaging platform; Integrate and control new fluidic components, such as pumps or thermocouples; Test system reliability across device subsystems including fluidics, hardware, and software; Implement work-flows and features in Python-based control software; Work with our biologists to improve experiment reliability and develop new features. Essential Qualifications: Massachusetts resident, or attending an accredited college/university located in Massachusetts or a Minority Serving Institution; Experience building, validating, and troubleshooting heating and cooling systems; Ability to conduct calibration, testing, and maintenance of instrument subsystems, such as pumps, solenoids, thermocouples; Ability to use CAD tools (Solidworks, Fusion360) and 3D printing or laser cutting technologies to redesign and prototype instrument subsystems; Willingness to learn new skills, communicate across multi-disciplinary team, and document progress. Nice-to-haves: Ability to develop embedded systems using Python, serial, Arduino, etc.; Experience with microfluidics theory and fabrication; Familiarity with DNA/RNA, biology, or chemical laboratory work.
