XGenomes is an early-stage startup in Cambridge, MA building innovative sequencing technologies to unlock the power of genomics for the future of healthcare. We are reinventing sequencing to personalize medicine and accelerate diagnostics. Our mission is to make multi-omic information accessible throughout an individual’s lifetime, detect early signals of disease, and to monitor the effects of interventions. We are looking for a versatile, hands-on Research Associate to join our R&D team to help shape and develop our innovative sequencing platform. This role sits at the intersection of single-molecule imaging, molecular biology, and sequencing chemistry, and is well-suited to someone who thrives in an interdisciplinary startup environment where everyone contributes beyond their core specialty, and work-life balance is valued. What we offer- The opportunity to shape foundational sequencing technology from the ground up- A collaborative, scientifically rigorous, and intellectually curious team- Access to The Engine accelerator community and resources- Salary: $65k – $85k plus equity- PTO: 10 holidays/year, 15+ vacation days/year; 5 sick days/year What you'll do- Execute and interpret sequencing experiments supporting assay development, with an emphasis on single-molecule imaging data- Analyze imaging and sequencing data- Troubleshoot sequencing chemistry and workflows, from sample prep through data generation- Design and iterate components of an existing integrated fluidics/microscopy system and write code to control its automated operation- Document experimental procedures, results, and protocols clearly for internal knowledge-sharing- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering and software teams to characterize, calibrate, and improve imaging instrumentation- Take on responsibilities outside your core specialty as needed Required Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Biophysics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, or a related field- Solid foundation in basic laboratory practices- Experience with CAD tools, 3D printing, and shop equipment (e.g., laser cutter)- Strong experimental rigor: able to design controls, troubleshoot independently, and interpret data- Excellent communication skills Preferred / Bonus Experience- Fluorescence microscopy- Standard molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, cloning, nucleic acid purification, enzymatic reactions)- Experience with microfluidics or fluidics systems- Familiarity with modern sequencing technologies- Computer programming (Julia, Python, MATLAB, Linux, AWS)- Computer vision and machine learning methods (not LLMs)
